Today we left Lake Moeraki to cycle to Makarora. We had crossed the southern alps to the west coast through
Arthur’s Pass on saturday. Today we will cross back through the alps to the
eastern side of the mountain range via the Gates of Haast on the Haast pass. We
passed through farmlands and along beautiful rivers and got great views of the
snow covered alps. We had a picnic lunch along the road at a waterfall. Met a
couple of Canadians cycling in the opposite direction so we took a couple of
photos. It was another clear and sunny day.. just perfect for cycling. Tonight
we are staying at the only accommodation in Makarora.. the Makarora chalets .. A frames set in the
woods… rustic but very comfortable. Tomorrow we cycle back to more populated
areas.. Wanaka. Only 2 days left of cycling.. time passes very quickly.
